Lots of people have raised their hands and said they want to own the first copy, so selling it by auction makes it more fair. Right? I hope so! 2. Fundraising. As you may know, it costs a lot to produce an album. The artist has to pay for studio time, musician fees, producer fees, mixing, mastering, manufacturing, advertising... The truth is, most artists are likely to spend more money​ making an album than they will ever make in sales. (Bedroom Voice cost over $17,000 to record and manufacture.)
